The three days prior to Halloween are crunch time for me, so I can't waste any time sitting around when I could be carving pumpkins. This is why, when some mothers brought knitting to their children's ballet class and some brought a good book, I brought a pumpkin and a couple of tiny saws. The kids who were hanging around outside the classroom were intrigued by the process (and more than a little skeptical that the little blobs I was carving would end up looking like a pirate). It was fun to see their faces when I finished and lit it up.
BTW, most people knew right off that this was Captain Barbossa from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, but one guy thought I'd done a great Bob Dylan.
