You have a solid alibi, so your main concern isn't your connection with the murder.  What’s far more worrisome is that your identity could be compromised.  The maid was supposed to kill Mr. White long after the house party was over, so you would have no chance of being involved in the investigation.  Now, you're in considerable danger from the incriminating things in your room, including love letters written to your real name – Egbert.

As soon as possible, talk to the maid and find out why she botched the job up so badly.  This will have to be done carefully, since you don't want to have any connection to her if the Inspector ties her to the crime.  However, if there was a reason for the haste, you'd better know what it is.
